The Bags Are On Their Way!

As an added benefit for their World Travelers, Oceania arranges for Luggage Forwarding to ship two 50 pound bags per passenger some two weeks ahead of departure. A very much appreciated perk as we learned on our unexpected return from Rio in 2020 when we were left to manhandle some 150 lbs of luggage thru three airports. According to plan, my two bags above will be in my cabin when I board on January 15th. Any number of people have asked how one packs for a six month trip. The advice I was given was to pack for two weeks with ability to layer for the varying temperatures. Probably very good advice which I would have been well served to take. However, I can't say that I was that organized with my approach. I am quite sure that in those two bags were numerous things which will not be utilized and an equal number of items not included that I will sorely need. Especially since one of the two was stuffed to the gills with knitting projects. At last count there were no fewer than seven projects complete with patterns, needles, etc. With at least 40 "at sea" day, I didn't want to run out of knitting projects. I'll keep you apprised of my progress along the way. As to the items not packed but sorely needed, a wise friend once told me that there are millions of people around the world, if it is so essential to survival, it will be available. If not available, how do they survive without it? Need is indeed a relative thing.

This next week will be filled with countless last minute details, arrangements, tearful farewells, and nervous anticipation. On Saturday I fly to San Francisco then board the Insignia Sunday. A big "Thank You!" to my family and friends for their support and understanding as to why I feel the need to make this trip.
