Nha Trang, Vietnam

ree

My method of transportation for my tour. Nha Trang is a prosperous, bustling, modern city in addition to being one of Southeast Asia's most popular resorts. There is a plethora of pristine beaches, luxury hotels, fine restaurants, up-scale shopping, city parks and walking trails in addition to the thriving commercial district. Love, love, love Nha Trang! Would come back in a heartbeat!

War Memorial Statue in center of city.

Beautiful Cam Ranh Bay from my pedicab. This was a popular R&R destination for our troops, now an equally popular holiday destination for Russians, Chinese, Europeans & a few Americans.

Loved the manicured medians. So clean!

View of Cam Ranh Bay from my pedicab. I think I was told by my guide that a Disney-like amusement park is across the bay near those mountains in the background.

As you no doubt guessed from the photos, my excursion of choice this day was a "Guided Pedicab Ride Through Nha Trang". I was not alone in this choice. Some forty or so of my fellow passengers were taken by bus to a back alleyway where our pedicabs awaited us. Seems these pedicabs were sized for two Asian bodies, but only one cruise ship passenger per cab, please! There was an ample supply of cabs and drivers for all so no worries. After being given a radio tuned to our guide so that he might inform us of what it was we were viewing, a hand in boarding said pedicab (not as easy as it might look), and the obligatory photo op of each aboard their ride and then we were off. Single file in the right most lane, just like our bike lanes back home. Though I started out in the middle of the pack, I soon discovered my driver and I were bringing up the rear. Never learned the reason for this or if there was a reason, but at several points along the way, I decided it was so that there would be no known witnesses to my demise. As I said, we were in the right most lane and I was totally engrossed in whatever landmark was being described by the guide some half mile away at this point when we approach a busy intersection. At this point my driver realizes the rest of the group has turned to the left. Okay, left turn it is! Irregardless of the fact that a rather large city bus was in the next lane traveling in the same direction and faster than we with several cars approaching the intersection from the opposite direction arriving at approximately the same time as we. Nope, no concern for him at all, we need to go left so we turned left. My driver may have not been fazed in the least but I was pertrified! My eyes had to be the size of dinner plates, no breathe escaped my lips, no blood circulated in my veins as he whisked us skillfully between the front bumper of the bus and the front bumpers of the oncoming cars. "Geez, we just bluffed two cars and a city bus!" I shouted when I could breath again. He got a big kick out of that so apparently decided to make it a game and see just how many other near misses he could fit into our hour and a quarter tour. Later in the tour, he would tap me on the shoulder and point out this or that landmark and slow until I had taken a picture or two. Too bad I did not understand a word he said and we were long since out of range of the guy on the radio. All too soon, the tour ended at a park where my fellow passengers and the bus awaited. What a ride! What an experience! What a beautiful city! This was the most fun I've had since Singapore! I highly recommend that when you are in Nha Trang you take a pedicab tour of the city. You may, however, wish to choose a driver without a death wish! Or not. He was very skillful.

Today Is Someday! Take a Pedicab Ride!
